There have been several film versions of the Jules Verne novel “The Mysterious Island,” which served as the back-story for the author’s enigmatic Capt. Nemo and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” As far back as 1916, in a film that combined both stories, directors have sought to bring the strange island to life.
The 1929 version from MGM boasted talking, Technicolor and Lionel Barrymore. There was a serialized version in 1951 that screened short chapters on a weekly basis and featured aliens from Mercury. The 1961 version, shot in Spain, promised an unparalleled adventure in motion picture excitement, including a fight to the death with a prehistoric devil fish.
The newest version will showcase Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Michael Caine and Oahu.
“Journey 2: Mysterious Island” is part sequel to the 2008 version of Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” but director Brad Peyton and New Line Cinema aren’t saying much else. Filming began last week in Kaneohe and will continue here until mid-December before moving on to North Carolina.
It also stars Kristin Davis of “Sex and the City” fame, Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical,” Josh Hutcherson of the first “Journey” and Luis Guzman, who appeared in “Out of Sight” and “Boogie Nights.”
“Hawaii provides a spectacular setting,” said producer Beau Flynn in an e-mailed statement. “There are unparalleled locations for the action and a terrific local crew base. We are thrilled to be here shooting our movie.”

New trailer released from Sony Pictures. It’s the international version of the trailer for “Faster” there are few more scenes such as a hospital scene with Dwayne.
Let us not kid ourselves: You can say movie stars are no different from the rest of us, really, and you will be right, except on those occasions when you are wrong, at which point you will be spectacularly wrong. And Dwayne Johnson — also known as The Rock in earlier, heartier days — is a prime example of being spectacularly wrong. I’ve watched Johnson work press before: One-on one, Johnson makes the kind of meaningful, attentive eye contact you rarely get outside of a long-term relationship, and in groups, he works the room like a Chicago pol.
The set of “Faster” was no exception. Asking Johnson what his character’s ratio of words spoken to bullets fired is, he smiled and played along: “Let me see. Words spoken to bullets fired? 1 to 25.” And Johnson is also infectiously enthusiastic about returning to action after films like “The Tooth Fairy,” “Race to Witch Mountain” and “Planet 51.”
“When you talk to the writers [Tony and Joe Gayton], I don’t know if they referenced this to you, but [their pitch] was ”’ Bullitt’ meets ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” Those guys, when they write, they write ’70s-style. When your main character has one main, driven focus, it doesn’t get overintellectualized, doesn’t get too complicated. While a lot of the characters can be complicated — well-layered — the main point of the story is very straightforward.” Continue reading »
Being invited on the set of an upcoming motion picture is always a delight and a difficulty. It’s a delight because, for any movie lover, the chance to see the workings of the machine in operation — cameras, sound recording, effects and the whole equation in operation — is pure diversion and entertainment.
The difficulty is two-fold: The first part being that watching a film being made is no indicator of its eventual quality, as if you were looking at the ultrasound picture of an unborn child and trying to determine his or her SAT scores. The second is that while you are watching actors and directors and other craftspeople at work, they are at work, so you always feel more than a little in the way, and your presence as a member of the press does not mean that they can necessarily take time away from the multimillion-dollar enterprise that they are actually there for.
Fortunately, last March, on the set of “Faster” — the upcoming road-and-revenge film starring Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton and others — the group of journalists I was with got plenty of time with star Johnson and director George Tillman Jr. to talk about old-school moviemaking, real-world stunts and the raw, rich taste of vengeance. The day’s filming involved Johnson walking down a hall, peering into the middle distance — clearly spotting an enemy — and unholstering a handgun larger than his head, or your head — or, for that matter, both put together — and furiously pulling the trigger as an offscreen voice yelled ‘bang’ from behind the scenes to help the make-believe process. DWAYNE “The Rock” Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton have been listening to love songs on the set of their latest movie!
The Hollywood hardmen are shooting action movie Faster together but like nothing more than some good old country tunes to help them relax between scenes.
“We both have an affinity for traditional old school country music,” says former pro-wrestler Dwayne.
“We had that to talk about. And, he’s a great storyteller. He’s a talented guy who’s very intriguing and very passionate about his acting and, certainly, about his music. He’s really, really cool.”
Teenhollywood interviewed Oliver previously and now we have Dwayne!
In the upcoming action flick Faster, due out in theaters on November 24th, Dwayne Johnson is back to his kick-butt ways and TeenHollywood was invited to the set on a soundstage in Studio City, Calif.
The film tells the story of a man, known as Driver (Johnson), who does a 10-year stint in prison with only the hunger to avenge the murder of his brother to fuel him. Now, on the day of his release, all he can think about is going after the four men responsible for his brother’s death, at any cost.
We’re seeing Dwayne on set all sweaty and scarred with gun in hand, looking very intimidating and like a man on a mission. But, this guy is really a pussy cat and, once the scene ended and he is ready to do this interview, he is genuine and charming, making it easy to see why he’s become quite the movie star.
Check out what Dwayne has to say about Faster and where he sees his career going next.
TeenHollywood: Are you happy to be doing a role where you don’t have to cover your tattoo?
Dwayne Johnson: Yeah, absolutely. I’ve done a couple movies, in the past, where it fit for the character. But, if we have to cover it, it takes about an hour or so.
TeenHollywood: A lot of people are excited about you getting into the action genre. What was it about this project that got you back into this kind of film?
Dwayne Johnson: The script spoke to me, right from the beginning. It came across my desk about a year and a half ago, maybe a little bit more. I read it, I loved it and I loved the character. Getting back into the action genre is like going back home. It’s great. I loved the script. I loved that the characters were well-written, against a simple back drop and simple storyline. It’s about, “You took something from me, and now you’re going to pay.” Continue reading »
Congratulations Sabrina you are our February 2012 DJ fan of the month!
This is why she is Dwayne Fan of The Month:
‘I have been a fan of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, since i have been 9 years old. Now being 24, i have grown to appreciate and look up to him not only as a role model , but as someone that i consider a HUGE influence of who i am today. I used to go to RAW and Smackdown as a young girl, crying over just being in the same room as him. My family would know to buy my only his merchandise for holidays and special events. To this day, people still admire me for my dedication as a fan, and my willingness to one day meet him in person. I dont even know what i would do if i did, i know someone would have to catch me when i fall, becuase i know i would be hitting the floor!”
