I added another video of the Fast Five Premiere in France from NRJ. It sounds like the event there was really HUGE. This video is longer and has all the introductions too. Thanks Camy!
Box office update: ‘Fast Five’ posts April’s largest opening day ever with $33.2 mil on Friday
Vroom! Onomatopoeic openings aside, Friday’s box office consisted of two groups: Fast Five and everything else. Universal’s $125 million street-racing action film — the fifth in the Fast and the Furious franchise — collected an estimated $33.2 million on Friday, including $3.8 million from Thursday midnight showings. That result gives Fast Five the largest opening day ever in April, passing its predecessor Fast and Furious‘ $30.6 million opening-day tally in 2009. Fast Five, which stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Dwayne Johnson, is on track to finish the weekend with about $78 million. Assuming the PG-13 movie does so, a whole slew of other records will be set: April’s biggest opening weekend (beating Fast and Furious‘ $71 million debut); Universal’s best opening ever (passing The Lost World: Jurassic Park‘s $72.1 million); and, naturally, 2011?s top debut to date (destroying Rio‘s $39.2 million opening from two weeks ago). Helped by some heavy hype from Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson and ”Jersey Shore’s” Snooki, WWE has reached its goal of 1 million pay-per-view buys again for WrestleMania.
Although final numbers are still being tallied, this year’s live four-hour event, hosted April 3, in Atlanta, is already up 30% in North America and up to 15% overseas, according to the company.
Last year’s WrestleMania generated 885,000 orders, down from 960,000 in 2009.
WrestleMania is the company’s single biggest moneymaker each year. Last year’s PPV earned $19 million; ticket sales to the Phoenix show chalked up another $5.8 million. But that was down from previous years. In 2008, Orlando’s ‘Mania earned nearly $24 million from PPV buys and another $6 million in ticket sales.
The recession recently caused consumers to reconsider ponying up $50 for WWE’s version of the Super Bowl, or save money by holding viewing parties, causing PPV buys to drop. Fans also complained storylines were weak leading up to the event.
Knowing WWE needed to drum up some excitement around this year’s show, McMahon turned to some old friends. Continue reading »

Here’s an interesting read about Dwayne’s value in the hollywood market:
When you first saw the trailer for Fast Five, the latest installment in the deathless franchise that hits theaters today, did you think to yourself (in between having your mind blown by awesome stuff, of course), “Wait, why is The Rock in this? Doesn’t he usually get to star in the big dumb action movies he makes?” Dwayne Johnson has enjoyed a surprisingly productive film career since breaking out of the WWE in the early part of the 2000s, but recent developments — the box office disappointment of last year’s Faster, the aforementioned supporting role in Fast Five, and even a part time return to wrestling — suggested his moment may have passed. But is that really the case? We spoke with industry insiders to answer that question, along with the weekly Star Market query: If Dwayne Johnson were a stock, would you buy, sell, or hold? Congratulations Sabrina you are our February 2012 DJ fan of the month!
This is why she is Dwayne Fan of The Month:
‘I have been a fan of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, since i have been 9 years old. Now being 24, i have grown to appreciate and look up to him not only as a role model , but as someone that i consider a HUGE influence of who i am today. I used to go to RAW and Smackdown as a young girl, crying over just being in the same room as him. My family would know to buy my only his merchandise for holidays and special events. To this day, people still admire me for my dedication as a fan, and my willingness to one day meet him in person. I dont even know what i would do if i did, i know someone would have to catch me when i fall, becuase i know i would be hitting the floor!”
