G.I. Joe 2 Will Center on Dwayne Johnson’s Roadblock as the Lead

More G.I. Joe 2 news:

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has come forward to explain his intentions behind the Jon M. Chu directed sequel G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes. Dwayne Johnson, also known to some as “The Rock”, recently joined this new adventure as Roadblock. As Lorenzo di Bonaventura tells it, this new addition to theatrical franchise will be one of the movie’s two lead characters.

“It’s a full-on lead role. In a way, he and Snake-Eyes, their stories are really dynamic and very important. (Dwayne Johnson) is such a great character to have in ‘G.I. Joe 2.’ It’s an amazing combination. We would not be very good if we didn’t fully utilize him, so he’s going to have a lot of things to do. It is an ensemble movie, so you have other characters certainly playing it out.”

Lorenzo di Bonaventura then went onto explain that this will essentially be a sequel tailored to the ninja fan.

“The ninja fans are going to love it. There’s a tremendous amount of it. What’s interesting is, we both have that going on in the Snake-Eyes story, but we’ve found a way to bring that element into the Joes’ story. I think anybody who’s a fan of dark, in the middle of the night [action with] a dangerous foe arriving, this is a movie for you.”

G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes begins shooting later this summer.

G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes comes to theaters August 10th, 2012 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, Elodie Yung, RZA, D.J. Cotrona. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu.
