Added over 270 screencaps of the wonderful video tribute posted by wwe.com called “Follow The Rock’s life as he prepares for his match against John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII” to the galleries. I have watched this video so many times.
The invasion is underway — “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” won’t arrive in theaters until June 29, but the commando sequel is already trying to win hearts and minds with the new commercial that airs on Super Bowl Sunday during the big game on NBC. It’s a film that will be driven by action and sprinkled with comedy, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, but it also aspires to bridge an interesting pop-culture generation gap.
When the first film in the franchise, “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” arrived in theaters in 2009, di Bonaventura heard from plenty of confused people — the common link was that most had grown up in the 1960s or 1970s when G.I. Joe was a brand name synonymous with the 12-inch-tall military-man toy that introduced the term “action figure.” They were all unaware of the 1980s reinvention of the brand — in Marvel Comics, toys and animation — that used G.I. Joe as the code name for an elite, high-tech military force. Continue reading »
Dwayne Johnson on working with Michael Caine, and his trailblazing use of pecs in his new movie
Who am I speaking to? The Rock or Dwayne Johnson? It’s hard to keep up.
You’re speaking to both, as well as Big Daddy (1).
How would you describe Journey 2 Mysterious Island (2)?
The film is a lot of fun. It’s visually stunning with some great special effects, some great action sequences, some great tension and adventure. Last, but certainly not least, I look great in 3D.
And how would The Rock describe it?
The Rock would describe the film in the same way that I just described it. But at the end, he’d say: “The Rock looks great in 3D.”
What was it like working with Michael Caine (3)? You get into some good arguments in the first half.
We had an outstanding chemistry from the beginning. I have been such a big admirer of Sir Michael for years now. He is humble, he’s gracious, he’s a man’s man, tells a great dirty joke. We had a great chemistry offscreen, and a great biting chemistry onscreen. Continue reading »
Seeking solace from the overwhelming island heat, Total Film grabbed some shade for a chat with Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson.
Dwayne Johnson Interview
How does it feel to shoot at home in Hawaii?
“It’s fantastic. It’s great to come back home, it’s great to shoot back here. You know, I grew up probably 30 minutes away from here and things were much different back then – for myself. It’s awesome to come back and bring a big movie back here to Hawaii, not only for the local businesses here in Hawaii but for me personally it’s very satisfying.”
Does shooting in 3D affect your acting?
“First of all, this is my first 3D movie so it’s been a fascinating experience. Does it affect the acting?”
Because you’re already 3D yourself…
“Thank you for saying that. You’ve known me for a long time, yes. No, I don’t believe it affects the acting, it mainly affects the shot set-ups. We’re the third generation users of Cameron’s 3D technology, we were the first generation with Journey To The Centre Of The Earth. He came by the set and was watching how all of his cameras, his technology was being utilised – and he was the second generation and now we’re the third. So it’s been fascinating.” Continue reading »
Kevin MCarthy from nerdtears.com interviewed The Rock and the rest of the cast about the movie Journey 2 when he was in Hawaii. It’s a fun candid little interview check it out:
In this follow-up to the 2008 worldwide hit ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth,’ the new 3D family adventure ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist. It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret. Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest. Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever. ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ stars Michael Caine as Sean’s grandfather, Alexander Anderson, and Kristin Davis as Sean’s mom, Liz Anderson. ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D’ is set for release February 3rd in the UK and Febuary 10th in the US.
How was it for the both of you shooting in Hawaii? Dwayne, I know you spent some time there during you
teenage years. And Josh, how was it compared to shooting on a sound-stage where much of the first film was shot?
Dwayne Johnson: For me, I was a punk kid running around there when I was 14, getting arrested, doing a lot of things I shouldn’t have been doing. To go from that kid to this man, to be able to have this movie pump millions of dollars into the economy, that w

Dwayne Johnson thrilled students and teachers at his former high school while shooting Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in Hawaii by dropping by unannounced – to see if the old place had changed since he was a teenage tearaway.
The wrestler-turned-movie star grew up in Hawaii – and even landed a police record there following an arrest.
But he was treated like a returning hero when he showed up at his old school during a filming break.
He tells WENN, “It was a reflective moment driving through town looking at all the places that I got in trouble and arrested at for a multitude of things. To be able to bring a movie here, giving tens of millions of dollars to the locals and the local businesses is very special to me. Continue reading »
The moment Dwayne Johnson stepped onto the platform, it was evident to all that he was a genuine ham and an entertainer at heart, pulling all the stops to make his audience laugh, whether flashing his wide, white smile, making his chest pop and dance or whipping out a ukulele to strum and sing—in Taiwanese, to boot.
Action star Dwayne Johnson and director Brad Peyton flew to Taipei for the premiere of “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.” The film, which premieres in Asia ahead of the US, costars Josh Hutcherson (reprising his role from Journey to the Center of the Earth), Vanessa Hudgens, Kristin Davis, Luis Guzman and Michael Caine.
“Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” is the first film to utilize the updated version of the 3D camera developed by James Cameron and Vincent Pace for the film “Avatar,” as well as being the first live action film done with the Cameron-Pace technology. It’s a lush, vivid film filled with laughs, touching moments and edge-of-your-seat excitement.Continue reading »
Last year in the hyperkinetic film Fast Five, Dwayne Johnson growled and grumbled playing the role of a federal agent chasing a pack of auto-bandits in Rio de Janeiro. Johnson, also known as The Rock, is a prime cut of beef that glitters in the Brazilian sun; yet the man holds his character with gravity, zipping through the breakneck action with all scowl and no smile.
Next week, Johnson will switch into his goofy, all-smile mode _ this is something he’s been doing since his crossing-over from the sweaty wrestling ring to the Hollywood movie screen. The Rock’s first outing in 2012 is Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, an all-out family fun film taking place on what looks like Jules Verne’s (and Robert Louis Stevenson’s) imaginary lost world full of dwarfed elephants and gigantic bees. Along for this 3D ride are Michael Caine, the legend who also adopts a madcap guise, and Josh Hutcherson as a boy in search of adventure, preferably at the end of the world.
“It’s a conscious choice to pick roles that I’m going to enjoy, whether they be action or comedy films,” Johnson said in an interview last week during his press tour in Taipei, where Journey 2 opened to the fanfare of Chinese New Year (the film opens in Bangkok on Feb 2). Straddling the two sides of movie personality is a strategy _ one that happens to suit his gentle-giant appearance _ which is likely to nourish the career of this former wrestling superstar who slammed his way into Hollywood’s first bill with The Scorpion King exactly 10 years ago. Congratulations Sabrina you are our February 2012 DJ fan of the month!
This is why she is Dwayne Fan of The Month:
‘I have been a fan of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, since i have been 9 years old. Now being 24, i have grown to appreciate and look up to him not only as a role model , but as someone that i consider a HUGE influence of who i am today. I used to go to RAW and Smackdown as a young girl, crying over just being in the same room as him. My family would know to buy my only his merchandise for holidays and special events. To this day, people still admire me for my dedication as a fan, and my willingness to one day meet him in person. I dont even know what i would do if i did, i know someone would have to catch me when i fall, becuase i know i would be hitting the floor!”
