ET was on the red carpet last night for the premiere of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, a sequel with Dwayne Johnson, of whom his co-stars spoke very kindly.
“Dwayne is Superman,” director Brad Peyton said. “He’s the nicest guy in the world, and he can also bench-press you at will.”
Co-star Josh Hutcherson also had his share of admiring words for the man who rose to fame as a professional wrestler
“He’s a guy that can go from being the big action star, and then he flashes that million-dollar smile and just makes the ladies swoon. He’s got a very sensitive, compassionate side to him too,” the 19-year-old actor said.
“To steal the term, it’s been a hell of a ‘journey,’” Johnson said as he flashed his ‘million-dollar smile.’ “I got to play the ukulele. I got to sing to Sir Michael Caine. I got to make my pecs pop. I mean, some call it entertainment [but] I would refer to it as heaven.”
The 39-year-old charismatic gentleman just winked at the camera when asked about the movie.
“That’s my international way of saying it’s damn good,” Johnson explained. Somehow we already knew exactly what he meant.
The invasion is underway — “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” won’t arrive in theaters until June 29, but the commando sequel is already trying to win hearts and minds with the new commercial that airs on Super Bowl Sunday during the big game on NBC. It’s a film that will be driven by action and sprinkled with comedy, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, but it also aspires to bridge an interesting pop-culture generation gap.
When the first film in the franchise, “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” arrived in theaters in 2009, di Bonaventura heard from plenty of confused people — the common link was that most had grown up in the 1960s or 1970s when G.I. Joe was a brand name synonymous with the 12-inch-tall military-man toy that introduced the term “action figure.” They were all unaware of the 1980s reinvention of the brand — in Marvel Comics, toys and animation — that used G.I. Joe as the code name for an elite, high-tech military force. Continue reading »

Dwayne Johnson on working with Michael Caine, and his trailblazing use of pecs in his new movie
Who am I speaking to? The Rock or Dwayne Johnson? It’s hard to keep up.
You’re speaking to both, as well as Big Daddy (1).
How would you describe Journey 2 Mysterious Island (2)?
The film is a lot of fun. It’s visually stunning with some great special effects, some great action sequences, some great tension and adventure. Last, but certainly not least, I look great in 3D.
And how would The Rock describe it?
The Rock would describe the film in the same way that I just described it. But at the end, he’d say: “The Rock looks great in 3D.”
What was it like working with Michael Caine (3)? You get into some good arguments in the first half.
We had an outstanding chemistry from the beginning. I have been such a big admirer of Sir Michael for years now. He is humble, he’s gracious, he’s a man’s man, tells a great dirty joke. We had a great chemistry offscreen, and a great biting chemistry onscreen. Continue reading »

Courtesy of Usatoday.com Here’s an exclusive sneak peek at the first wave of action figures from the summer movie “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” including Dwayne Johnson’s Roadblock, Channing Tatum’s Duke and Cobra Commander. G.I. Joe is celebrating 30 years of battling the evil organization Cobra on the big screen as well as in the toy aisle. Directed by Jon M. Chu and due out in theaters June 29, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is the follow-up to the 1980s military-tinged franchise’s first cinematic affair three years ago, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which was the highest pop-culture point to date of three decades of comic books, cartoons and toys.
And with a new movie come new action figures of returning actors Channing Tatum as team leader Duke and Ray Park as the ninja Snake Eyes, franchise newbie Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as heavy machine gunner Roadblock, and many more. (
For those who’ve been waiting for a toy to complement their John McClane action figure, Bruce Willis is in the flick, too, as “original Joe,” Joe Colton.)
Hasbro releases the new line of Retaliation movie toys on May 28, with a focus on the 3.75-inch-tall figures popularized in 1982 with the first wave of the modern “Real American Hero” Joe toys, which influenced a generation just as the 12-inch figures did when they debuted in 1964. Many of the new toys will be on display at the American Toy Fair in New York City Feb. 12-15. Continue reading »

The New Line and Warner Bros. sequel is pacing 76 percent ahead of the first film in the select countries where it has opened.
Warner Bros.’ decision to take advantage of various holidays and open New Line’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in select foreign markets before the film’s North American launch on Feb. 10 is paying off.
The sequel, starring Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens, has already grossed $26.5 million from only eight markets, 76 percent ahead of the 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth at the same point in those territories, according to Warner Bros. president of international distribution Veronika Kwan-Rubinek.
(Hutcherson, who stars in the upcoming Hunger Games, is the only returning cast member.)
Journey 2 opened nearly three weeks ago in Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan, where the Chinese New Year holiday makes for prime moviegoing. It also opened in Australia and New Zealand, where there are school holidays.
The sequel has earned $6.6 million in Korea, followed by $5.6 million in Australia, where Fast Five – also starring Johnson — did massive business. Continue reading »
Seeking solace from the overwhelming island heat, Total Film grabbed some shade for a chat with Dwayne Johnson and Josh Hutcherson.
Dwayne Johnson Interview
How does it feel to shoot at home in Hawaii?
“It’s fantastic. It’s great to come back home, it’s great to shoot back here. You know, I grew up probably 30 minutes away from here and things were much different back then – for myself. It’s awesome to come back and bring a big movie back here to Hawaii, not only for the local businesses here in Hawaii but for me personally it’s very satisfying.”
Does shooting in 3D affect your acting?
“First of all, this is my first 3D movie so it’s been a fascinating experience. Does it affect the acting?”
Because you’re already 3D yourself…
“Thank you for saying that. You’ve known me for a long time, yes. No, I don’t believe it affects the acting, it mainly affects the shot set-ups. We’re the third generation users of Cameron’s 3D technology, we were the first generation with Journey To The Centre Of The Earth. He came by the set and was watching how all of his cameras, his technology was being utilised – and he was the second generation and now we’re the third. So it’s been fascinating.” Continue reading »
Congratulations Sabrina you are our February 2012 DJ fan of the month!
This is why she is Dwayne Fan of The Month:
‘I have been a fan of The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, since i have been 9 years old. Now being 24, i have grown to appreciate and look up to him not only as a role model , but as someone that i consider a HUGE influence of who i am today. I used to go to RAW and Smackdown as a young girl, crying over just being in the same room as him. My family would know to buy my only his merchandise for holidays and special events. To this day, people still admire me for my dedication as a fan, and my willingness to one day meet him in person. I dont even know what i would do if i did, i know someone would have to catch me when i fall, becuase i know i would be hitting the floor!”
